Before art can happen the artist must first set aside all preconceived notions of beauty. If I pick up my pen or brush with an attitude of judgement I do naught but mar a perfectly good piece of paper. When I let go of the concept of value I am free to express without concern for the worthiness of either the subject or myself. Then and only then can art materialize.
