Modern technology can bring people together from great distances and provide a medium for like-minded individuals to form relationships, affect change, and foster feelings of community; however, technology cannot mimic the warmth of personal interaction, intricacies of body language, or the true immediacy of being present. While I feel the pull of the virtual world, I prefer to be present. Finely crafted objects offer an antidote to the ephemeral digital existence which pervades our culture, while simultaneously providing an accessible forum for expression of modern life’s complexities. I choose to make vessels in order to encourage others to share the present tangible world, deepen relationships, and create community.
