I'm an Indigenous artist who uses both traditional and modern materials for my pieces. I make jewelry, rugs, paintings, baskets, digital art (into prints), and most notably apparel. I grew up on one of the 9 reservations here in Oregon learning traditional ways first hand but then moved to the city for college. After moving I had to figure out how to use modern materials in a traditional way to fulfill my need for creativity. I come from a community that's rich in culture but doesn't have good representation outside, in modern society. As an artist I choose to create pieces using my background to uplift my people and celebrate our story.
