Mosaic Artist

MIMI NEAR is an Architectural and Fine Art Mosaic Artist living and working in the foothills of Oregon's Cascade Range. She has been creating mosaic professionally for sixteen years. Prior to her career as a mosaic artist Mimi was a Ceramic Tile/Stone Contractor/Installer. In 2000 she went to The Mosaic Art School in Ravenna, Italy to study under Luciana Notturni. Mimi fell in love with the traditional technique of mosaic, giving “fuel to the fire” of Mimi's passion to create. Her skills as a professional tile installer have allowed her the freedom to create large installations for public and private spaces.

I first stepped into the Cathedrals of Europe when I was Thirteen years old and in that moment of seeing this beautiful ancient art form, I knew I wanted to create in that way! There is something magical about using hundreds ~ even thousands of tiny pieces of glass to bring an image to life.
“When I create, my intention is to uplift and to be uplifted, to stir something inside the viewer as well as in me and often that unfolds as the piece is being created. My hope is that you will be surprised and delighted by what you see!”
