Jakub Jerzy Kucharczyk has been working as a stained glass artist since 1997, with work experience around the country. During his studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he began his apprenticeship at Morava Glass Studio in Oak Park, IL. There he learned how to recreate, restore and conserve Prairie style windows. After receiving his BFA, he moved to Boston and worked with Jim Anderson Stained Glass Studio, where he gained the ability to create and restore Victorian and Tiffany compositions. Returning to Illinois, he applied his skills toward private commissions, and helped to further Morava Studio’s dynamism and versatility. He spent the next five years with Morava (directly prior to his move to Portland), restoring the leaded glass windows of many homes that are now historical landmarks (e.g. Frank Lloyd Wright's Heurtley house, George W. Maher’s Pleasant Home). In 2007, Jakub arrived in Portland and began to expand his glass education at Savoy Studios, where renowned large-scale art glass is produced for commercial investors primarily within the hospitality and entertainment industry. At Savoy projects frequently combine both metal work and a variety of glass arts’ processes: stained glass, kiln forming, glassblowing, etching, mirroring and cold working. Working alongside many artists in the Portland glass community, Jakub expounded his knowledge and versatility in the glass arts and in 2010 set the gears of The Glaziery into motion, continuing and revitalizing the tradition of stained glass.
