Arthur M Braud,
I am a painter & designer with a primary focus in watercolor portraiture.
Arthur Braud (b.1993, Michigan, United States) is a Vietnamese American artist and graduate of Western Michigan University. During the entirety of his career, Braud has constantly juxtaposed the notions of beauty and devastation through portraiture of ambiguous, desolate individuals. He eliminates social identity by removing attributes that identify one’s culture; hair, clothes, gender, jewelry, etc. Braud’s focus on emotional composition provides an opportunity for his viewers to observe an individual as a psychological existence rather than a social being. Since there is great ambiguity within his intentions, he encourages his audience to question their psychological connection to his 2 dimensional subjects.
Braud has participated in over 20 gallery showings, including the Grand Rapids Art Prize, and has sold to several institutions across the globe. Braud currently resides in Portland, OR where he teaches watercolor, exhibits & markets for the Alberta Street Gallery, and participates in local fairs/events.
