Cold Wax Demo -December 9 at 3 pm
In December, Gallery 114 presents the abstract oil and cold wax paintings of Serena Barton, whose body of work titled "Marking Time" was inspired by Paleolithic cave paintings in Pech Merle in Southwestern France. While teaching a workshop on abstract oil and cold wax painting last summer in France, Serena Barton took a trip to see the many Upper Paleolithic cave paintings in Pech Merle. Fueled by the excitement of seeing the creations of people who lived roughly 25,000 years ago, Barton returned to her own work, painting complex multi-layered surfaces and visual textures that echo the signs of the passage of time found in the ancient caves.
